Norfolk Souper Bowl 2011
NORFOLK - Lots of people got up early this morning to go bowling. It's Souper Bowl 2011 a benefit for the Norfolk Salvation Army and sponsored by Kings Lanes and 106KIX. Teams of four filled all 32 lanes at Kings to bowl two games starting at 6 a.m. Admission was at least one can of soup from each bowler. Bowlers contributed 1,400 cans of food to take part. In addition, Hy-Vee Food Stores contributed a pallet of food. With an increase of people coming into its Soup Kitchen, Salvation Army Lt. Heather Montenegro says the donations couldn't come at a better time. The Norfolk Hy-Vee Stores also contributed in a big way by donating a large amount food -- brought to the Soup Kitchen yesterday and the bowling alley this morning.
