Norfolk school board approves roofing contract

NORFOLK - The Norfolk Public Schools Board of Education has approved the bid for roofing work at the Senior High – but not without some controversy.  At last month’s study-session, representatives of local roofing companies objected to the process being used to repair or replace roofs throughout the district. Local roofers said the specs were put out too late for them to get the work on this year’s calendar, basically eliminating them from contention. At Monday night’s meeting of the Board, an adjusted bid of $315,761 was approved through Heartland Roofing for Toney’s Roofing to do the work.  A little more than $11,000 was subtracted from the bid because of additional supervision costs the district had not authorized. The bid was accepted on a five-to-one vote, with Bob Waite voting against the bid.
