Norfolk school board approves purchasing guidelines

NORFOLK - The Norfolk Public Schools Board of Education has approved guidelines for purchasing, including limits on what can be approved by building principals.  At this week's meeting of the board, Superintendent Dr. Jami Jo Thompson said she had reviewed the district's purchasing procedures and found them to be extremely general.  Thompson suggested, and the board agreed, that purchases up to $250 could be made by building principals as long as those purchases fall within the building's approved budget.  Purchases of between $250 and $50,000 would need to be approved by the superintendent or the director of business services.  Formal board approval will be required for all purchases of $50,000 or more and a sealed bid process and board approval will be required for all construction projects of $40,000 or more.
