Norfolk Puts new Police Cruiser into Service
NORFOLK - The Norfolk Police Division has a new black-and-white squad car… a 2012 Chevy Impala. But Norfolk Police Captain Mike Bauer says it isn’t brand new. Norfolk detectives broke it in by driving it for the last year. Two more cruisers will be added to the Norfolk fleet in the next month. The cars have LED lights, which use less power… significant since police cars are loaded with computers, radios, scanners and other electronics and use a lot of juice. Bauer says he hopes the L-E-D lights will help to prolong the lives of the cars’ batteries, which typically need to be replaced every year. Bauer says officers will drive the new black-and-whites for about three years or 100,000 miles.
