Norfolk firefighters extinguish deck fire

NORFOLK -  The Norfolk Fire Division responded to a two-story apartment house fire Thursday afternoon at around 1:00.  Firefighters encountered smoke and fire at the deck area of the house at 600 Queen City Boulevard.  According to Norfolk Fire Division Captain John Reding, firefighters contained the fire in the deck area, which sustained moderate damage.  The building is owned by Allen Butterfield of Lincoln.  Reding says the fire appears to have been accidental, the result of a large magnifying-type glass left on the deck, which concentrated direct sunlight onto the deck and ignited the wood.  There were no injuries to the occupants or firefigfhters.
