Norfolk Firefighters Battle Blaze Friday Night

NORFOLK - Norfolk firefighters spent late Saturday night fighting a house fire at 1322 Verges Avenue.  Firefighters were dispatched just before 11 p.m.  First arriving units encountered heavy smoke and flames coming from the residence owned and occupied by James Peterson.  Norfolk Fire Inspector Dan Nelson says it took 22 firefighters and 4 apparatus 45 minutes to control the fire and another three hours to overhaul the structure.  Nelson says the property’s estimated value was $75,000.  Damage included $50,000 to the structure and $38,000 to contents.  The Norfolk Police Division, NPPD and Black Hills Energy assisted the Norfolk Fire Division.  No firefighters or civilians were injured in the incident which is under investigation.
