Norfolk Fire Marshall: Don't Burn Your Leaves
NORFOLK - It’s fall and people all over Norfolk and Northeast Nebraska are busy in their yards, raking leaves. But what should you do once you've raked them into piles and wind rows? Norfolk Fire Marshal Terry Zwiebel says one thing you should NOT do is burn them. A city ordinance prohibits the practice. Instead, Zwiebel suggest you bag them up and haul them to the city’s transfer station at 600 East Monroe Avenue, where you can your leaves to the community’s compost pile. There is a small fee: 60 cents per bag or $3 for a pickup load. If you have questions, you can all the transfer station at (402) 844-2231.
