Norfolk City Council updates purchasing code

NORFOLK - The Norfolk City Council has approved updates to the codes covering purchasing, the first change in 15 years.  At this week’s meeting of the Mayor and Council, City Finance Officer Randy Gates said the change updated the threshold for bidding to account for inflation, but the amount is still within the limitations set in state statute.  The amount at which the city would need to solicit bids from at least three competitive bidders increased from $400 to $600. City administration must award bids for items between $1,500 and $30,000. Decisions about purchases within their budget that are under $1,500 can be made by city department managers.
