Norfolk Chamber up for national honor

NORFOLK - Members of the Norfolk Area Chamber of Commerce are hoping that their second chance at being named the National Chamber of the Year is the lucky one.  Chamber Board Chairman Scott Williams and Chamber President and CEO Dennis Houston are headed to Oklahoma City for the American Chamber of Commerce Executives National Convention – and the final stage in the 2013 Chamber of the Year process. Houston and Williams will be interviewed Tuesday morning by a panel of six judges who are previous Chamber of the Year winners.

Two years ago, the Norfolk Chamber was a finalist for the 2011 Chamber of the Year award, finishing second to Paducah, Kentucky. Houston says that being a finalist two out of the last three years is (quote) “absolutely amazing.” He says the honor is a community recognition, reflective of the hundreds of volunteers who assist the Chamber each year.

Six members of the Chamber board of directors – one-third of the board – plan to attend Wednesday’s Chamber of the Year Awards Ceremony. In all, 10 Norfolkans will be in attendance to show solidarity and support for the Chamber.
