No Transgender Policy on NSAA District Meeting Agenda

BATTLE CREEK - District meetings for the Nebraska School Activities Association are being held around the state tomorrow, including one in Norfolk – but a transgender policy is NOT on the agenda. A spokesman in the office of Battle Creek Superintendent Jay Bellar, the District Three representative on the board, says there has been some confusion about the issue, and Bellar will make some comments about the issue at the noon meeting Wednesday in the Norfolk Public Schools Central Office. But there is no proposed policy on the agenda for the meeting. Although NSAA board members have discussed a policy concerning participation in activities by transgender students, no vote has ever been taken on the policy. In order to become NSAA policy, the measure would have to be approved by at least one of the NSAA’s six districts at a November meeting, followed by approval of at least three districts in January. The policy would then have to be voted on at the NSAA’s April general assembly.
