Nebraska's Wireless Rates the Highest in the Country

UNDATED - If you grumble each time the bill for your wireless phone or other device comes each month - be sure to grumble a little at your city, state and the federal government. Economist Scott Mackey has been tracking taxes and other fees on wireless service for nine years. He says Nebraskans pay the highest tax rate and fees for service of any of the 50 states - 25 percent.  Mackey says the national tax and fee rate is about 17.2 percent. He says the U.S. House has already passed a bipartisan Wireless Tax Fairness Act, and the U.S. Senate will likely pass its companion bill before the end of the year. Mackey says that would place a freeze on any new state or local wireless taxes and fees for a five-year period.
