Nebraska Capitol's peregrine falcons get names
LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) - Three peregrine falcons raised from a nest high atop the Nebraska State Capitol building now have names. The Nebraska Game and Parks Commission says the falcons are named Meadowlark, Goldenrod and Cottonwood after the state bird, state flower and state tree. Jeanne Hibbert, of Sprague, and Willie Braun, of Lincoln, selected the names as part of a "Name the Chick" contest and the public voted on them. The winning entry was one of six finalists selected out of 290 entries. Hibbert and Braun received a stuffed toy peregrine falcon and a year's subscription to NEBRASKAland Magazine. Officials say the young falcons recently took their first flights over the Capitol.
