Most of Nebraska No Longer in Drought

LINCOLN - One month can make a big difference.  National Drought Mitigation Center Climatologist Brian Fuchs says heavy rains in June ended the drought for nearly all of Nebraska.  Fuchs says the state entered into drought in the dry and hot summer of 2012.  Drought carried over into 2013 and didn't seem to be nearing an end as 2013 turned into 2014.  But Fuchs says the storms in June that left a lot of damage in their wake also ended the drought, dumping enough rain on Nebraska to recharge depleted subsoil moisture.  He says only a portion of southwestern and north-central Nebraska remain in moderate drought.
