Math and Reading Emphasized in Elementary Grades

NORFOLK - A new report says elementary schools in Nebraska and surrounding state have reduced or even eliminated science education in recent years to emphasize reading and math. Norfolk Public Schools Director of Teaching and Learning Bob Hastings says there is an emphasis on reading and math in the lower elementary grades, but he believes that is necessary to give students the fundamentals they need to deal with more complicated classes like science and social studies. Hastings says Norfolk Senior High students are required to take three years of science.
