Maskentine Lake Beach closed for swimming
STANTON - A favorite swimming spot in Northeast Nebraska is closed once again this summer. The swimming beach at Maskentine Lake near Stanton remains closed, but the recreation is open for fishing and other activities. Ken Berney, assistant manager of the Lower Elkhorn Natural Resources District says the area ended last year with low water levels, and there was not a lot of recharge this spring. He says irrigators in designated areas in Madison and Wayne counties are cooperating with a program that requires flow meters and limited pumping, helping to conserve groundwater.
