Man Arrested After Death of Grand Island Lawyer

GRAND ISLAND, Neb. (AP) - Authorities have arrested a central Nebraska man for the shooting death of a Grand Island attorney outside his law office.  Fifty-eight-year-old Michael L. Petersen, of Glenvil, faces first-degree murder and weapons charges. Petersen was arrested near Hastings Thursday evening. Police say he was armed but offered no resistance.  Petersen is accused of killing 52-year-old Todd Elsbernd on Wednesday. Authorities suspect Elsbernd was targeted.  Elsbernd is listed in court records as having represented a man named Michael L. Petersen in a divorce case involving a woman named Nancy Petersen.  A woman named Nancy Petersen was found shot to death Thursday in Buffalo County. Authorities say they are investigating whether the shootings are connected.  A defense attorney for Michael Petersen wasn't listed in online court records.
