Madison County Commissioners Choose New 911 System

MADISON - Madison County will soon have a new 911 call processing system.  At its meeting Tuesday, the county’s board of commissioners voted to award the contract to Emergency Call Works.  The county’s dispatch supervisor, Sandy Habrock recommended the Birmingham, Alabama company’s bid over one from Solacom.  One of Habrock’s arguments for the Emergency Call Works bid centered around the fact that it could be tied in with other area systems, including the Norfolk Police Division’s.  Habrock also told the commissioners that despite its $48,000 higher price tag, the Emergency Call Works system may be less  expensive in the long run since all of its updates would be free, while the Solacom bid included access to updates that would have to be purchased.  The commissioners voted unanimously to accept the Emergency Call Works bid.
