Madison County Asks for Refund of Bar Association Dues
MADISON - A recent Nebraska Supreme Court decision concerning State Bar Association dues has prompted the Madison County Board to request a refund of dues paid for the past four years. At this morning’s meeting, Commission Chairman Lee Klein explained that the high court’s decision says attorneys cannot be required to pay for anything other than administrative expenses. Only $98 per attorney is used for administrative expenses, and that is the only part of the Bar Association dues that can be mandatory. Over the past four years, the county has paid nearly $10,000 in Bar Association dues for attorneys employed in the offices of the county attorney and public defender.
