Loan Would Let Tribe Build New Casino
SANTEE - A 20 million dollar loan is designed to allow the Santee Sioux Tribe of northeast Nebraska to construct a new casino and hotel. The tribe already operates the Ohiya Casino near Niobrara. The economic development loan, from the Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community of Prior Lake, Minnesota, is designed to allow the Santee Sioux Nation to construct a new 25,000 square foot Ohiya Casino with 400 slots and bingo; a 50 room hotel, banquet facility and convenience store; and a golf course and clubhouse. A news release says the two tribes have had historic ties dating back to the mid 1800s.
