Johanns Visits with Residents in Pierce
PIERCE - Many producers in Nebraska, and throughout the Corn Belt, will be filing claims against their crop insurance this year because of the severe drought. U.S. Senator Mike Johanns, a former Ag Secretary, says insurance companies will be making some big payouts this year. Johanns says there are some programs for livestock producers, but they have not yet been funded. He says he is disappointed that work on funding for these programs was not completed before Congress adjourned for the August recess and he is hopeful that the matter will be taken up as soon as law makers return to Washington. Johanns made his comments after a community coffee yesterday in the Pierce Public Library. He was also a guest at the customer appreciation event at Dinkel Implement in Norfolk later last night.
