Johanns: Farm Bill Has Merit, Not Perfect
WASHINGTON, D.C. - Nebraska U.S. Senator Mike Johanns is pleased that progress is being made on a five-year farm bill. The House passed the 1,000-page bill on Wednesday. Johanns says it has merit, but it is not perfect. The bill eliminates direct payments to farmers, but continues to subsidize crop insurance programs. Johanns, a former Secretary of Agriculture, says this is one example of the hard-fought compromises that make up this bill. The bill now heads to the Senate, where Johanns expects it to be addressed next week.
