Heineman Says Nebraska Only University for Him
NORFOLK - Nebraska Gov. Dave Heineman has applied to be the next president of the University of Nebraska. Heineman will end 10 years as the state's chief executive at the end of this year, and is contemplating what his future will hold. But he told us that he's contemplating what his future will hold, but that the University of Nebraska post is the only job in higher education that interests him. Heineman has been criticized for announcing publiclyu that he's seeking to replace former NU President J.B. Milliken. He says he believes it was necessary for him to make the decision public to facilitate open, honest and transparent government. He says, if the Accountability and Disclosure Commission rules that he improperly used public resources in making the announcement, he will reimburse the state.
