Hassebrook Backed by State, Local Officials

LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) - Democratic gubernatorial candidate Chuck Hassebrook has won the endorsements of 13 state senators, a Lancaster County commissioner and former U.S. Sen. Bob Kerrey.  The endorsements were announced Wednesday at the Capitol.  Kerrey, a former governor, ran unsuccessfully for his old U.S. Senate seat in 2012. Hassebrook had announced plans to run for the seat, but withdrew and endorsed Kerrey shortly after he entered.  Hassebrook also received endorsements from state Sens. Bill Avery, Danielle Conrad and Amanda McGill of Lincoln; Brad Ashford, Tonya Cook, Burke Harr, Sara Howard, Rick Kolowski and Heath Mello of Omaha; Ken Haar of Malcolm; Russ Karpisek of Wilber; Kate Sullivan of Cedar Rapids; and Norm Wallman of Cortland. All are Democrats in the officially nonpartisan Legislature.  Hassebrook also was endorsed by Lancaster County Commissioner Jane Raybould.
