Gubernatorial Candidate McCoy Stresses Stand for Traditional Marriage
ELKHORN - Recently the Douglas County Board extended benefits to same sex-couples. Elkhorn State Senator Beau McCoy, a Republican gubernatorial candidate, says actions like this go against the Nebraska Constitution that bans same-sex marriage. He says even his opponents should look carefully at the state’s Constitution. McCoy says he’ll continue his fight of legal recognition for same-sex couples and those married out of state will not be able to claim benefits here. Same-sex couples are allowed to claim federal benefits but in Nebraska they must file as single on state tax forms.
