Field House Concept Faces Challenges

NORFOLK - A proposed field house in Norfolk may face some significant challenges, but a steering committee will continue to work on the project.  At a public meeting Tuesday night, Jeff King with Ballard*King Associates, said the idea is for the facility to be self-sustaining, but many groups are not accustomed to paying a facility fee.  King says the primary service population trends a little older than ideal for maximum use of such a facility, and many organizations now use school and outdoor facilities at little or no cost, making it unlikely they would want to pay a facility fee to use a field house.  A smaller steering committee is being formed to continue to narrow down the uses for the building. After that, Ballard, King will prepare a detailed study of operational costs and projected revenues.  About a dozen people, mostly soccer proponents, attended Tuesday night’s meeting in the Norfolk Area Chamber of Commerce building.
