Faith Regional Has New Procedure to Fight Lung Cancer

NORFOLK - Doctors at Faith Regional Health Services have performed a specialized surgical procedure designed to combat early-stage lung cancer. Most lung cancer patients receive a lobectomy which involves the complete removal of the involved lobe of the lung. The new procedure, interoperative brachytherapy is for patients with limited lung capacity.  Faith Regional cardiothoracic surgeon Dr. Thomas d'Amato performed the surgery in which tiny pellets of radioactive seeds are sewn into a mesh device, which is then sochered along the affected lung's operative bed.
