Elkhorn Above Flood Stage At West Point
WEST POINT - Minor flooding continues in the West Point area along the banks of the Elkhorn River due to an ice jam that has formed downstream of the Highway 32 bridge. Emergency Management officials earlier Tuesday reported the jam extended for about two-to-three miles. Flood stage as of 8:00 Tuesday night was 14 feet -- two feet above flood stage, although it was likely impacted by ice action. At this level, significant lowland flooding of agricultural areas and low lying areas around West Point can be expected. Fluctuations of a foot or more will continue until the ice jam flushes out. Also, a 16 mile stretch of Highway 275 from West Point to Scribner is included in a flood warning for central Cuming and northern Dodge counties through 11:30 Wednesday morning. At Crowell, the highway is closed due to water over the road.
