Downtown Norfolk parking plan goes into effect October 1st
NORFOLK - Ten years ago, the biggest problems in Norfolk’s downtown area were loitering and speeding. Now, phenomenal growth in the downtown business district has created a parking problem. Crews are at work painting stripes in Norfolk’s downtown parking lots and putting up new signs to designate customer, employee and resident parking areas. Connie Geary, president of the Vehicle Parking District, says the idea is to get employees and residents to park in designated lots, freeing up more parking spots for customers near the businesses where they shop. Customer parking will be limited to two hours. Downtown parking ordinances go into effect October 1st, and apply from 6 a.m. until 6 p.m. Monday through Friday. Some portions of parking lots will be striped with blue paint and these are reserved 24 hours a day, seven days a week for downtown residents.
