Diabetics May Feel Depressed in Winter
WEST POINT - Are you starting to feel the effects of shorter hours of daylight-- a condition referred to as Seasonal Affective Disorder, or SAD? Deb Schroeder, Cuming County extension educator and a member of the Cuming County Diabetes Team, says winter can be an especially tough time for diabetics. She says sometimes, even small things can seem overwhelming. Schroeder says in addition to monitoring diet, exercise, and medications, diabetics should make sure they are getting enough sleep. She says the average adult requires 8 1/2 hours of sleep each night-- and there is no way to catch up on lost sleep.
