Decision to Replant Is Complicated
NORFOLK - The hail storm that passed through the Norfolk area last week left some crop damage in its wake. University of Nebraska Extension Educator Wayne Ohnesorg says the hail appeared to start east of Pierce, pass through the Hadar area and north of Norfolk and then to Stanton. Ohnesorg says the damage to crops varies from little damage – to total devastation. Ohnesorg says the decision to replant is complicated and varies from farm to farm. He says producers need to consult with their crop insurance company and follow their recommendation. In addition, he says it is important for producers to consider what herbicide program they used this spring. For instance, he says if your original crop was Round-Up Ready corn and you plan to replant to soybeans, you will need to use beans with a different herbicide trait, like Liberty-Link.
