Decision to Replant Complicated by Herbicide Traits
NORFOLK - Thirty or more years ago, when hail came through and took out your corn, you just replanted with soybeans and hoped for a late frost so your crop would mature. But today, the decision to replant - and what to replant - is much more complicated. Wayne Ohnesorg, University of Nebraska extension eduator, says one thing producers need to think about is what herbicide program they used for their original crop. For instance, he says if your original crop was Round-Up Ready corn and your plan to replant to soybeans, you will need to use beans with a different herbicide trait. Ohnesorg says it's important to consult with your crop insurance company, for its evaluation of your coverage level and recommendation on replanting.
