Deadly Weekend On NEN Highways

UNDATED - It was a deadly weekend on Northeast Nebraska roads. Two people were killed in separate accidents early Sunday morning with fog likely to blame. The Nebraska State Patrol reports Imelda Villapando Hernandez, 47, of Pender was killed when she was struck by a car on Highway 16 just outside Pender around 2:35 a.m. She was switching drivers with another person when she was struck. Five minutes later, the Patrol reports Brittany Meyer, 20, of Onawa, Iowa died in a head-on collision on Highway 275 near West Point. She was a back seat passenger in the car that was struck by another vehicle. On Saturday afternoon, a Schuyler woman was injured when her car was struck by a train. The Patrol reports Kathleen Jonas, 62, died later from her injuries at Creighton University Medical Center in Omaha. And on Friday, a Verdigre man was seriously injured when the back tire on his motorcycle blew four and a half miles south of Creighton on Highway 13. The Patrol reports Mark Pischel, 54, lost control of the cycle. He died a day later from his injuries at Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City.
