Deadly virus found in swine herds
LINCOLN - A virus that can kill nine out of ten piglets in every herd has been confirmed in eight states, including two that border Nebraska. Veterinarian Dr. Howard Hill, president-elect of the National Pork Producers Council, says diagnostic labs in Iowa and Minnesota have confirmed 103 cases of the virus so far. Tests have confirmed the virus, known as PEDV, is present in swine herds in Iowa and Colorado, as well as Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Minnesota, Michigan and Oklahoma. There is no vaccine for the virus.
