Columbus Man Pleads Guilty To Murder
MARENGO, Iowa (AP) - A 32-year-old Nebraska man charged with killing a maintenance worker at an Interstate 80 rest stop in eastern Iowa has pleaded guilty to second-degree murder. Peter Riggs, of Columbus pleaded guilty today in Iowa County District Court in Marengo to killing Jeffrey McAdam, 46. Riggs, who was originally charged with first-degree murder, entered his plea a day before his trial was to start. Riggs was sentenced to 50 years in prison.
