College Adopts New Classification and Compensation System

NORFOLK - Classified employees at Northeast Community College - those not on the instructional faculty - will be covered by a new classification and compensation system. At Thursday's meeting, the College Board of Governors unanimously adopted the recommendations of a two-year study by the Walters Consulting Group of Dallas, Texas. Vice President of Human Resources Dave Ptak says the plan will be put in effect retroactively to June of 2010, and about 50 percent of the classified staff at Northeast will see an increase in pay because of the change. Ptak says it has been 34 years since the classification and compensation system at Northeast was reviewed. He says the industry standard is to review such systems every 10 years.
