Clarkson woman dies in Stanton County accident
STANTON - The Stanton County Sheriff’s office is continuing to investigate a two-vehicle accident Sunday evening that claimed the life of one passenger and critically injured two others. Stanton County Sheriff Mike Unger says the accident at the junction of highways 57 and 32 occurred at about 7:00 p.m., eight miles south of Stanton. A westbound car driven by James Pfeifer, 53, of rural Clarkson pulled into the path of a southbound pickup driven by Cole Beyke, 19 of Stanton. Pfeifer’s wife Peggy, 51, was killed in the accident and pronounced dead at the scene. James Pfeifer was critically injured and taken to Faith Regional Health Services. Their daughter Hannah, 21 was critically injured and was flown via medical helicopter to Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City. All three Pfeifer’s had to be extricated from the wreckage by Stanton firefighters using the “Jaws of Life”. Beyke was taken to Faith Regional for treatment. Seatbelts were in use by all of the occupants.
