City of Norfolk receives economic development block grant

NORFOLK - The Nebraska Department of Economic Development has awarded Norfolk $165,000 to improve streets, rehabilitate a single-family rental home and rehabilitate downtown commercial properties.  The funding is a Community Development Block Grant and is annually allocated by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.  Deputy Director of the Northeast Nebraska Economic Development District Tina Engelbart says Norfolk has been a part of the program since 2005 and has had a lot of success with a variety of projects.  Engelbart says the district works with Norfolk city staff and holds public hearings to get input on what types of improvements should be made in the targeted area.
