City Council Postpones Re-Zoning Vote for East Norfolk Avenue Property

NORFOLK - Members of the Norfolk City Council voted Monday to table a request to change the zoning designation for a property on East Norfolk Avenue after hearing concerns from a neighbor. On February 20th, the Norfolk Planning Commission voted unanimously to recommend the zoning designation change for the property at 721 E. Norfolk Avenue from commercial and residential to commercial only, but a neighbor expressed concerns that the portion of the property designated as a hotel had become a permanent residence for several individuals and families. Mota Ambaji, Inc. owns the property. Several council members expressed concerns that no one was at the council meeting to speak on its behalf. The council voted 7-1 to table the vote on the rezoning question. Members of the city's staff will attempt to contact Ambaji representatives and ask them to be available to answer questions at a future council meeting.
