CDBG Could Help with Highway Construction
MADISON - The Madison County commissioners discussed the application for a block grant to the Nebraska Department of Economic Development for County Development at today's board meeting in Madison. Executive director of the Northeast Nebraska Economic Development District, Thomas Higginbotham, his agency is asking for $500,000 of the federal monies to help build the final phase of the Northeast Industrial Highway north of Norfolk. Higginbotham says the grant is for economic development so the application has to include promises from companies who will benefit from the highway's construction. Leaders for Nucor, Norfolk Iron and Metal and Tube City have promised to create the jobs if the block grant is awarded.
