Candidate Withdraws from Congressional Race

OMAHA (AP) - Omaha City Councilman Pete Festersen is dropping out of the race for Congress two months after launching his campaign, and he leaves Democrats without a candidate to challenge Republican Rep. Lee Terry. Festersen said Monday that he couldn't balance the demands of the campaign with his family and work obligations. This is the second time Festersen changed his mind about running. Festersen said in August that he wouldn't run, but reconsidered in October after the budget stalemate in Washington increased voter dissatisfaction with Congress. Terry is in his eighth term representing Omaha and the rest of Nebraska's 2nd District in Congress. Terry faces a challenge from conservative Republican businessman Dan Frei. And another Conservative Republican, former State Sen. Chip Maxwell, of Omaha, is considering running.
