Be Sure to Keep Your Live Christmas Tree Well Hydrated

UNDATED - If you have set up your live Christmas tree, be sure to check the water level in the tree stand at least once a day. Burt County Extension Educator John Wilson says the stand should hold at least half-gallon of water, since a tree will use one quart of water a day for every inch of diameter in the trunk. Wilson says he can’t emphasize enough the importance of keeping water in the tree stand. Wilson says there is no need to add anything to the tree water. He says things like aspirin, sugar, soda pop and even commercial products do nothing to extend the life of the tree and can be harmful to pets that might drink water from the tree stand.
