Area Man Sentenced In Traffic Death

COLUMBUS (AP) - A Humphrey man has been sentenced to a year in the county jail for a collision that killed another driver. A Platte County district judge has sentenced Lee Tepoel for motor vehicular homicide. Tepoel, 63, pleaded no contest to the charge. Authorities say Tepoel knew the brakes were bad on his 1976 utility truck and was using a hand brake for vehicle control when his truck hit a pickup in April 2011. Prosecutors say Tepoel failed to stop at a stop sign at a rural intersection near Lindsay and hit a pickup driven by Adam Jarecki, of Newman Grove. Jarecki, 31, died at the scene.
