Antelope County Supervisor Charged With Theft
NELIGH - An Antelope County supervisor has been charged with felony theft for allegedly stealing gasoline and county property. Madison County Attorney Joe Smith filed charges Thursday against 62-year-old Harlan Brandt of Oakdale. Smith is serving as special prosecutor in the case. He says the investigation began in December of 2013, and the Nebraska State Patrol and Nebraska Attorney General's Office have also been involved. The alleged thefts took place between June of 2011 and April of 2014. The statute of limitations on theft in Nebraska is three years, so only those actions that took place in the last three years can be prosecuted. Brandt represents District 6 on the Antelope County board, and is serving his third term. His first court appearance is scheduled for Wednesday morning at 9:30 in Antelope County Court. He is charged with a Class 4 felony, which carries a maximum penalty of five years in jail.
