25th Street Waiting on Guard Rails

Norfolk motorists have been waiting all year for a chance to drive on the reconstructed 25th Street - and they may have to wait a little longer. At this week's meeting of the Mayor and City Council, City Public Works Director Dennis Smith explained that the street cannot be opened safely until guard rails are installed on the bridge west of Skyview Lake. Smith says the problem is not weather. Smith says the crew that will install the guard rails has been working in the area, so the work should be completed soon. The main north-south arterial on the west side of Norfolk has been closed since late spring. The project runs from Benjamin Avenue on the north to the Highway 275 Bypass on the south. The stretch from Norfolk Avenue to Highway 275 is open, but the section of 25th Street between Norfolk and Benjamin avenues remains closed.
