10th annual Jakes event to teach young hunters

BATTLE CREEK -    Area kids can spend this Saturday in the great outdoors learning about hunting and conservation.  The Northeast Nebraska Beards and Spurs Chapter of the National Wild Turkey Federation is hosting its 10th annual Jakes and Extreme Jakes event.  The event is free for kids ages six to 17 and will be divided into two groups: the Jakes for ages 6 to 11 as well as older kids with little or no hunting experience; and the Extreme Jakes for 12 to 17-year-olds with advanced hunting skills.  Events for the Jakes include animal track casting, archery and a nature hike… while the Extreme Jakes will have a blue rock shoot, learn muzzle loading  and turkey calling.  It's Saturday near the Yellowbanks Wildlife Management Area north of Battle Creek.  Sign-in time is from 8 to 9.  Events are from 9 to 3 with a free lunch.  There is a limit of 150 kids.  To register, send an email with the child’s name and age to nebeardsandspurs@hotmail.com.
